i sewed up one seam and one sleeve of the GPPand let her try it on. as i suspected, the neck is a little difficult to put on, but otherwise it fits. i'm glad i fudged the neckline, or else she would've never gotten it over her head. she likes it. she is going to wear it thursday for her school field trip (provided it's not cancelled). i need to get back to Chippy. i think i'll take that to work with me tomorrow. Yep, that's right....i said Work! it is a temp gig, but it ma turn permanent. and just in time for the holidaze, so i'm happy.

after a stressful week, i was definitely in need of some knitting therapy. al the pieces are done for babygirl's GPP. i finished the neckline (after frogging 3 times) and sewed the shoulder seams. the sleeves are blocking, and i'll get them sewn in today. after that, i think i'll work on the sleeves for Chippy for a while. have i mentioned that i really dislike knitting sleeves?

worked on GPP grand plan pullover yesterday. re-knit the back and finished the front. i'm happier with how it came out this time. i used a larger needle and loosened up my very tight knitting. it is more drapey and not as stiff.i joined the pieces of the ribby cardie and started the decreases. i'll be glad when this one is done. accordian has to be frogged. the back is too small, and i realized that i inadvertently tightened up my gauge. Woolease makes me want to knit tightly, and i have to consciously fight against that. i realized that as i was working on lo-tech, which is coming along smoothly. i'm at the raglan decreases on the left front. i have to agree with another blogger (i forget who), who praised the simplicity and clearness of Bonne's patterns. the only problems/mistakes have been my own.

the "no-swatch demon" got me again. 3XChic is too small--at least for its intended recipient (mom). ok. so i didn't swatch. but i did check my gauge, and it was spot on. i made the smallest size. figuring the finished measurement is 40", surely it will fit. HA! too small. but the homespun feels just lovely, and now i want a homespun sweater. at least i have another unfinished sweater that is for mom. lol. and that one i swatched, so it had better fit!

3XChic is blocking. why is it....the last portion of the last sleeve seems to take for-e-ver! the ribby cardie sleeve has been on the needles for two days already. i started on the front of the lo-tech sweat, that should be done this weekehnd, i hope.

pondering the next projects in the queue.....

14 October 2003

between sunday and monday, i started a toddler sized accordian. between maintaining a nice tight gauge, and k4p4 rib, my hands hurt. now, when doing rib, i always have that annoying problem that the last knit stitch before a purl stitch comes out loose and crappy. well thanks to another blogger, (i forgot who), i found out that wrapping the yarn under then over on the purl stitch after the knit stitch will tighten things up. and it works for me.before, i was twisting stitches, which was an imperfect solution. for the ribby cardie, it kinda worked. but for 3XChic, i was twisting stitches all over the place, because i had loose stitches everywhere. i think it was the nature of knitting with homespun on bamboo needles. but it hides it well. and that leads me to another trip to the frog pond. i knit several rows of the sleeves of chippy, and fell victim to the loose stitch syndrome [hereby now known as LSS], so i frogged them both. i'm 10 rows away from finishing the 2nd sleeve for accordian. tomorrow i will return to the ribby cardi. the top-down cardi is slow going on the sleeve. i really hate sleeves, and when i leave them last to do, they seem to take forever and a day. i bought a zipper, but it appears to be too short. aside from that, i think i may want to add an inch or two to the bottom. i really really need to get back to work on inishmore, but i'm going to wait until i have a few more items in the FO pile.

11 October 2003

3XChic is done. all thats left is blocking, neckline and seaming. i finally got back to the ribby cardi. yesterday i started and finished one sleeve. tonight i'll work on the 2nd. picked up a zipper for the top-down cardi, but i think it's too short. i want to lengthen it a little bit. and i want to make accordian for my daughter. she's not a toddler, but the adult small would be way too big. i can either size down, or size up. i think i'll be sizing up, since she's closer to toddler than adult, well at least agewise. she is 7, and wears a 10/12 jacket. i picked out Woolease is grey heather and rose heather for her. i hope she likes it.

and i picked up an old issue of Ultmate Knitting, only because it has a knitted skirt in it. and a cape/poncho thingie that looked pretty interesting.

07 October 2003

oh hell. i was plugging away at the back of Grace today. took a good look at it, stretched out on two needles, and i said to myself, "hmmm....this looks a little small". break out the measuring tape, and hell yeah! by like 4 inches!!! i scratched my head and said, "WTF?" i re-checked my gauge on the sleeves which are complete. they are right on point. but for whatever reason, my gauge on the back is tight. too tight to block out. so i frogged it. pissed me off to no end. that is TWO idiotic mistakes in TWO days!!! maybe i need a break. in any case, i pulled out 3XChic and worked on the front. and i worked on my Lo-Tech Sweat. yup another project i snuck in on the down low. i started it, got through the irritating moss stitch border then put it aside. wasn't really planning to come back to it for a while, but guess what. it is SIMPLE. MINDLESS knitting. i think that's what i need right now.

04 October 2003

OH CRAP!!!! i've been chugging along with the 1st sleeve for the ribby cardi , loving that it's moving along so quickly...and you know what??? two-thirds complete, and i realize (like an idiot) that I DIDN'T CAST ON ENOUGH STITCHES!!! at this point i'm supposed to have 54 stitches, and i have 44. SHIT. i'm pissed at myself.

01 October 2003

moving right along....worked on the first sleeve of the top down cardi. but that's boring...stockinette round and round we go. so i started the right front of the ribby cardi and i'm almost finished with that. also put down a few rows on the back of Grace. all in all, its been a good day.

2nd sleeve of 3XChic is done. now i can move on to something else. this is a christmas present, so i can let it "marinate" for a bit, while i work on something else. i think tomorrow i will try to get back to work on my daughter's sweater. i have more stuff to make for her, and i want to get started before she goes through yet another growth spurt. i fudged around with the numbers/gauge of the Grand Plan Pullover (GPP), so it will fit a bit oversized. might just last til next fall! inishmore is calling me, but i don't feel like working on it. it requires my full attention. i think when i've completed a project or two more, i can really concentrate on that one.

i need to finish:
ribby cardie
chippy
top down raglan cardi
