STILL waiting to hear about the job. i'm a little worried, even though i got positive feedback. anyway, not much knitting going on, still thinking ahead to fall already. i want to make Chippy from Rowan 27, but can't decide between the male or female version (how 'bout both?). i think it would be nice in lavender or white. i also am looking at Melba as well. i haven't gotten back to Pagan, but now i am determined to get it finished THIS week!

job interview went well. 2nd interview was a phone interview, which also went well. now it looks like they want to meet face to face before they make a decision. nerve wracking! i really need/want this job!!! and so close to home it is a blessing. not much knitting going on. pagan still on hold (maybe tomorrow), and i've started the ribbed shell i mentioned yesterday. need some ASC and more Cotton Ease! please send.

keep those good vibes a-comin'. i've got an interview tomorrow morning. really need this job. among other things, mama needs some stash enhancement!

what the hell is wrong with Blogger now? i go to update my template, and there's nothing there. everything is gone. this really sucks.

|

not ready to go back to pagan yet. it was like this with the rio top. i had to put it aside for a few days and let it marinate before i was able to successfully pick up stitches to my liking. no worries though. it will be done this week. in the meantime, i'm perusing my pattern collection for the next project (or two). i've pulled out a dozen patterns that i want to start some time in the near future. i already started one. Looby Lou's rib shell. she made it in ASC, and (of course) i'm substituting Cotton Ease that I have left over from my daughter's sweater from long ago.

22 May 2003

i could have had a finished Pagan top to wear today, except for one thing. picking up stitches. i hate picking up stitches. and i don't think i do them well enough yet. i tried and it looked crappy. maybe i'm not doing it right, i don't know. if i can make it to s 'n b this weekend, i'll be sure to bring it with me for some real-time help. "pick up and knit" is becoming the hated phrase! do i pick up an knit each loop that i pick up as i pick it up? do i pick up all stitches, then knit them? what do i do?

got this from chris, and i'm 78% snob: i'm a happy go-lucky-social chameleon, comfortable in any echelon. Even though i enjoy the odd swipe at your neighbor's taste in wives, I'm still a well-rounded human being who'd never who'd never dream of judging his fellow man on the color of his shoes

Pagan Update

Knitting is done. I did a 3-needle bind off on the right shoulder. twice. the first time i managed to drop a stitch and had to pick it out and redo. it is not the greatest looking seam, but it is pretty good. now comes my favorite (NOT!) part: picking up stitches. i'm not doing it tonight. i need to do it during the bring sunlight of daytime. so what do i do now? a little writing, a little knitting. :-)

|

19 May 2003

guess what i did today. i wove in the seams to sitcom chic. and after hanging on a hanger for um, 2 or 3 weeks, most of the curling is gone. i'll do a final steam, then decide if it really really needs grosgrain ribbon. i'm quite happy with it. i haven't found THE button yet. i will probably try to get some sort of clasp until the RIGHT button falls in my lap. i also sewed the sleeves and side seams to the Rio ribbed topI also finished some time ago. lots of ends to weave in and i don't feel ike doing it right now. instead i went back to work on Pagan. i'm exactly halfway to the beginning of the arm shaping. if i don't buckle down and finish it tonight, it will probably be tomorrow or wednesday before i can block both pieces.

once Pagan is done i will be working on the glace shell, babygirls sleeveless shell, and swatching for yet another project. the past few days have been cool (hmmm...maybe i should wear Sweet one more time?), and it promises to remain that way at least until thursday. this weather has me thinking about (oh now!) fall/winter knitting.

Help with Pagan

i decided i would like to do a 3-needle bind off for the front and back. so...in the pattern section that says "shape shoulders and back neck" it says: cast off 4 sts at beg of next row. then, cast off rem 5 sts. then you proceed to follow same directions on the other side. by my thinking, i should not cast off these stitches, and simply put them on a holder. am i right?

i've just been over to colurway to drool over cruise, smooch, and waves. i adore these patterns, even though i probably wouldn't have the cojones to wear cruise. i'd love to join the smooch knitalong, but i don't think i'll be able to get the pattern book. onwards!

well i found the italics code that i didn't close. now if i could only figure out how to stop that insane jumping that my scrollbar to the right keeps doing.

Pagan Update

started the increases, and guess what....i'd been using 1 size 8 and 1 size 6 needle. well DUH!! did i frog it yet again? hell naw! apparently i am still on gauge, and all is well. Pagan is beginning to become a comedy of errors.

|

15 May 2003

so i finally started Pagan. i'm about 4 inches or so into it (by my eye, i didn't measure) and the 3rd decrease row. i really like working with Cotton Ease. i'm not too keen on working with white yarn. man! you have to be so conscious of keeping it clean. actually i'm working on two projects that are white. Pagan, and the wrap top. i wish i could also join in on the Smooch knitalong. I think it would be really nice in mint green or red. (yup, thinking Cotton Ease again). definitely on my future "to-knit" list. in fact, i think i may really post my "to-knit" list. it's a whopper.

i finished the first ball of Katrina and i'm about 9 inches into the back of the wrap top. not bad yardage! the pattern calls for 6 balls. and (yikes!) i've cast on for Pagan--two days early, but i just couldn't wait anymore. well, maybe i can finish the back of the wrap top before i actually start on Pagan.

i'm curious--i only used 5 balls of cotton ease for Sitcom Chic (pics soon). Anyone else who has made this--did you use more or less of the recommended yarn?

My latest project:

I'm using Patons Katrina in white. It is so stretchy and springy. My frist time working with such an elastic yarn. I find I'm knitting a little losser, but I like how the resulting fabric is coming out. I'm one third up the back already.

Pagan Knitalong Update:

Required gauge: 17st and 24r to 4"

i will definitely be using Cotton Ease, unless some unknown yarn fairy pops some ASC into my hands. I swatched with both size 7 and size 8 needles.

Size 7: 4.5st and 7r to 1"

Size 8: 4.33st and 6r to 1"

soooo....should i swatch again with size 8 needles? are the size 8s close enough to get over?

on one of my last yarn buying sprees i bought some red heart, and some LB chenille sensations. dont ask what i was thinking about the red heart, i dont know. i really tried to work with the LB yarn, but it just ain't happening. so today i called Hobby Lobby to see if they would still take it back (well, an exchange at least), and they said no problem. so i picked up one more ball of Cotton Ease for Pagan, and the rest of what they had in white of Patons Katrina. yay me! new yarn is like new shoes...always makes me feel good.

< whine >

a little depressed today. not much knitting content. i'm almost finished with the front piece of babygirl's sleeveless turtleneck, which may end up being a simple crew neck, because it doesnt' look like i will have enough yarn to finish a turtleneck. that's the story of my life. i'm thinking i may not be able to join the Tank Girl knitalong...but we'll see what happens. it's weird. i have all this free time to knit, but i'm not accomplishing much. my so-called stash is not satisfying me at the moment. i'm thinking of offering up some stuff for trade. i have yarn, but not enough to complete anything. i don't do scarves very often, and every pattern i have bookmarked requires yarn i don't have, or don't have enough of, or don't have a adequate substitute.

01 May 2003

unfortunately, i didn't get the job i interviewed for two weeks ago. i'm sad, disappointed, and my ego is taking a beating. i'm trying to not let it get me down. nevertheless, the resumes continue to go out. sitcom chic is still awaiting a button. i think i will go look for something this weekend.

in knitting news alison is organizing a Pagan knit-along. i don't have any Rowan All Seasons Cotton (except for one ball i bought to play with), and although i love the yarn, i will be substituting with either Cotton Ease or Gedifra Marrakesh. so, a-swatchin' i will go. the sock is coming along slowly. i had been looking for a pattern specifically for 2 circulars, but am making do with a generic sock pattern i found at about.com. i've also gone back to work on the sirdar sleeveless turtleneck for babygirl, as it has gotten hot here in Georgia.
