FINISHED!

The boatneck shell is completed. And now we return to Sweet. With any luck I'll have it finished by late next week, and still have a couple of weeks to wear it this season. I'm still searching around for new projects, but haven't found anything as of yet.

i'm sailing along with the boatneck shell. the front and back have finished blocking (can i say i hate all that durn pinning!). i just finished the neckline border, and just have the arm borders and side seams to sew up. Woo Hoo! now onto the next project--casting on for Sweet.

25 February 2003

the front of the boatneck shell is finished. yayy me!! all that's left is to block, sew and finish. it took what...2 weeks. a really fast project. so in celebration, i picked up an old UFO. last year i started a sleeveless turtleneck (Berroco #201 - Yolanda). i had finished the front, then put it away because the weather was changing. well it's changing again, so i cast on and started the front. it's been so long that i think i may have to frog the back and do it over again. of course, all this is procrastination--i really don't feel like casting on 473 stitches for the front of Sweet.

7 inches into the front of the boatneck shell! shouldn't take me too long to finish this one. i took inventory of what i completed last year, and so far this year. Kerstin made me a button for my website. As soon as I get it uploaded to villagephoto, i'll put it on my blog. i'm still looking for future projects, so many that i like, can't pick just one. One requirement--yarn must come from stash!

while i was re-doing my template, i discovered that i've started several projects that were never finished. i think this year, i have a better grasp of what will/will not work, and can better pick my projects accordingly. too bad i don't have the time (or the hands) to make everything i want to make!

archives are back. i missed my blog birthday. i started amethyst muse on 2.20.02. seems like only yesterday.

i'm playing around with the template, and trying to retrieve my archives. please bear with me.

vogue knitting: i'm liking 14 out of 24 designs. not a bad deal. i am glad i picked up this magazine.
interweave knits: i like 10 out of 20 designs. another good purchase.
i don't know how many of these items will actually get made, but it is nice to dream, ain't it? anyway, i've started on the front of the boatneck shell, and hope to finish it this week. after that, back to sweet, and after that....back to Rowan Flame. i've had a terrible time with babygirl's lace cardi, and frogged it yet again. maybe i'm not ready to tackle lace, or at least not as one of multiple projects. it will require my full attention (no tv or computer). i'll try that one again soon.

22 February 2003

the 2nd sleeve is done. yayyy! now i really feel like i've accomplished something. true, i still have to do the front, but that's okay. well now i'm onto the boatneck shell. maybe i can finish that up this weekend.

19 February 2003

i travelled the ring today, so not much actual knitting progress. i'm a little more than 1/3 of the way up the sleeve. i had to pull out my Vogue Knitting Book, to remember how to do a M1 on a purl row in a way that is aesthetically pleasing. i normally fudge increases to always do them on a knit row. but now i know another way, so that's cool. i'm hoping that i'll be done with this sleeve by the weekend.

18 February 2003

so far i'm about 1/3 up the sleeve of Sweet. i am really noticing an increase in my knitting speed. maybe once i start the front, it won't take me forever and a day. i still dread casting on 473 stitches...whew!! but actually my planning is this: 1. finish sleeve 2. front of boatneck shell 3. front of sweet 4. resume work on flame on top-down raglan. after that, i will probably cast on for the lace cardi for babygirl. or maybe re-start the turtleneck in katia dolby which is currenlty in the UFO list.

i finshed the back of the boatneck shell. i started the 2nd sleeve of sweet. i'm looking forward to finishing sweet soon. at least before spring. of course i'm still thinking of future projects. a couple of baby items, a couple of things for babygirl. something for the boy. something for the big boy. more stuff for me. something for mom.

17 February 2003

i love this nameless yarn. it is a rayon tube, and soft and springy. i'm not in love with the color, but it should do well with several skirts i have. if i could find a similar yarn in some bright colors, i'd be happy. i'm about 8 rows short of the armhole decreases on the boatneck shell. i've noticed that my knitting is getting faster. after i finish the back of the boatneck, i'll start sleeve #2 of sweet. who knows, i may just finish sweet in time to wear this season.

15 February 2003

i'm about 6" into the boatneck shell. it is coming out nicely. i really want to make the bucket-o-chic, but being that it is 65 degrees outside, and i'm wearing shorts & a t-shirt, i'm not in the mindset for a hat.

14 February 2003

finished the sleeve....woo hoo!!! now i'm working on the boatneck shell for a little bit. i figure when i finish the back i can return to sweet. then flame. then...who knows.....

13 February 2003

i swatched. on size 7 needles i get 6st/7rows per inch. it's a weird gauge, but gives me some ideas.

i just finished the increases on the 1st sleeve of Sweet. once i finish this sleeve i'm going to swatch some Gedifra Marrakesh that i bought off ebay. i've never seen this yarn before. it is a wine colored nylon ribbon, in a black meshlike-tube. i wish i could find a picture of it online. it has a very spongy feel balled up as it is. i have no idea what i am going to use it for. i have 10 50g balls, each having 100m. any suggestions, please leave a comment.

12 February 2003

OMG! I almost forgot....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BONNE!!!

well i've got a good 4" done on the first sleeve of sweet. less stitches means this will go a bit faster than the back. lol. today has been an utterly lazy, lazy day. i *really* need to start taking multivitamins. the life of a slug is not a good one.

11 February 2003

the pattern calls for sewing the shoulder seams and the sleeve seams, then attaching the sleeve to the body. i just realized i do not know how to do this. gonna figure this out.

well i finally got out of bed (ahh...lifestyles of the poor & unemployed) at 11:45 and finally picked up haiku to finish it. unfortunately, i only purchased FOUR buttons, and i need five. that sucks. oh well. i guess i'll have to wait a little longer to give it to the very cute recipient, Sasha. she was born premature, so it will be a couple of months before it fits her anyway. :-)

10 February 2003

i think i'll cast on the first sleeve of sweet before i go to bed. why not. i feel like knitting, and this will relax me enough to fall asleep.

i've got 6.5" done on flame, having just finished the waist shaping. i'm making the tie shoulder version of this pattern. i just love this color periwinkle. but i must say, that i have to take care not to split the yarn. i would hazard to guess that aluminum needles was not a good choice, but i work with what i have on hand. i do not have the luxury of spending any extra $$ right now. rowan does have nice colors, but i wish they had more bright colors, like orange, fuschia and chartreuse (yes bonne, i'm a green fan too!). they are all pretty muted. usually i pick up purple, and i really liked the purple linen drape, but i already have 3 different purple summer tops, and i was looking for something different. i think one of my in-the-near-future projects will be in summer tweed. i'm also looking forward to checking out Calmer and Cotton tape by rowan.

i don't like swatching. i do it though. especially if i'm tryint to substitute the particular yarn a pattern calls for. but if i'm using the recommended yarn, i don't swatch. i *do* check gauge religiously within a project, so i guess that kinda saves me. i don't mind frogging however. lol. i started on flame from rowan 31 only because that pretty periwinkle linen drape was calling my name. it is kinda stiff, but from what i read at knitter's review, it will soften up. this is a spring/summer garment, since i'm sick of winter. it would be nice to have this ready for hmmm...let's say memorial weekend??

09 February 2003

finished the back of sweet! only 1.5 balls of dk soft used. yayyy!!! i do NOT feel like casting on another 473 stitches to start the front tonite. maybe tomorrow. instead, i'm going to fondle some swatches and see what patterns catch my eye.

08 February 2003

yikes! had to frog 3 rows of sweet, because i misread the pattern. instead of dec 1 st each side every row, i was decreasing every other row. good thing i noticed. because it is so fine, i'm unknitting stitch by stitch, so i don't lose any along the way. almost finished.

just about 15" into sweet. i've just started the armhole shaping. i've also just started on only the 2nd ball of Rowan DK soft. there's a great deal of yardage, and the pattern calls for 6 balls. i have 10, and am wondering if i can squeeze out a sweater for babygirl out of the remainder. I have the rowan book Pipsqueaks, which has the pattern in her size, and it says it calls for 4 balls. hmmm....we'll see. i think it would be awfully cute for us to have matching sweaters.

06 February 2003

i'm trying to catch up with all the bloggers, and with my knitting as well. i'm even doing some writing in between. :-)
i hit a snafu with sweet. i put it aside, and when i picked it up 2.5 weeks later, i inadvertently increased too much. so i frogged a couple of rows and got back on track. (#5 needles, black yarn, and dim lighting...not a good time). i've added some more to the top-down raglan, i've got 5" done, from under the arm. will have to pick up some more yarn in order to finish. yes, i admit it. i hardly ever buy an entire project's worth of yarn at one time...simply because i can't always afford it. the yarn for this particular sweater has been purchased piecemeal. i'm guessing i will need 4-5 skeins more. i'm not too concerned with dye lot for 2 reasons...1- the LYS hasn't sold much of this yarn, in this particular color, and 2-it is tweedy and has variations in color that should mesh, if in fact i purchase another dye lot. (well, here's hoping ;-) ). today i also started bonne's buttonhole scarf. i'm using chenille quick 'n thick in the sapphire print color. sweet and the top-down rag will be my last winter-weight sweaters. i really am looking forward to starting something cute and spring-like, especially as i expect the weather to break soon. i'm also considering a long-term project, like an afghan.

04 February 2003

working on the lace cardi for babygirl. i've had to frog once already, and may have to frog one more time, since i've lost track of where i was at in the pattern. it's starting to get easier, and now i'm looking for future projects in lace.
