FO!!

The sleeveless turtleneck i started the other day is a done deal. there were no schematics with the pattern, so it is a wee bit more cropped than i would like...still it is wearable. even more so when i lose another 10 lbs. or so, LOL. worked a little on the sampler scarf as well. i've got issues with my cables. a little tight, leaving gaping holes. i'm hoping that some good blocking will fix it all up.

here's another problem i'm finding. when switching from knit to purl, that last knit stitch is very loose. when switching from purl to knit, all is fine. is there some technique to tighten up that last knit stitch??

Thanksgiving Knitting! I went to my LYS, against my better judgement, and started another project. A (nother) sleeveless turtleneck with Sirdar Stampata Super Chunky yarn. It's a nice merino/acrylic/polyester boucle. I started it last night, and am currently midway through the front. Yay! Gotta love those quick projects in between the longer ones! I also started a sampler scarf--this project is designated to be "computer knitting", especially handy when chatting. Finally caught up with some other knitbloggers on mIRC the other day as well. It was fun, and love the opportunity to get to know my fellow knitbloggers better.

26 November 2002

i started two new projects. one that is not even on my list to the left. i fell in love with velvet touch, and i'm making a short sleeve, somewhat cropped top in variegated blues.

chinchilla scarf for babygirl is done. :-) and i've got a temp assignment starting on 12/1, lasting to 12/13. i'm still swatching, and looking for my size 3 32" circular so i can get started on sweet.

|

my fingers hurt. i've been working on the sleeves for the grey turtleneck. i've just cast off one sleeve, and one left to go. still considering other projects, and still looking for less expensive/more readily available substitutions for Rowan 4-ply cotton and Handknit DK cotton. any suggestions?

|

24 November 2002

working on chinchilla scarf and grey sweater. let me just say that knitting the sleeves together at the same time is tha shiznit! i'll be sure to do it this way all the time now! still swatching for new project. of course, i haven't decided what that project will be, so i'm just aimlessly swatching at the moment.

20 November 2002

i'm swatching. 'nuf said. more NEW projects in mind. went to the bookstore today, and i NEED to get the Rowan Pipsqueaks book. i saw several patterns for babygirl, and i was so excited to see the "sweet" pullover for girls. way cool. so (someday) she and i will have matching sweaters! the man-child is whole other story. too big for kid patterns, and sometimes too small for adult patterns. plus, he wants everything in BLACK. (can we say brooding pre-teen?)

|

i'm moving right along with the cable tutleneck. i've got the sleeves growing together. finished all the increases, so they should be done between today and tomorrow. i've cast on for the turtleneck sweater from the Fall 02 FCEK, with the chick from All My Children on the cover. it is made with Classic Elite Lush, but not one of my LYS's carry Classic Elite. Anyway, as a substitute, i found some DK weight alpaca. damn! this stuff is soft. i've been fondling the swatch i made and rubbing it against my cheek. isn't that crazy? i really want to start on Rowan "sweet", but i'm a little daunted by the fact that i need to cast on more than 400 stitches.

lots of possibilities
my WIM list is growing, but the WIP list remains stagnant. i want a couple of turtlenecks for THIS winter, and i'm starting to think of spring/summer items, since i am so dayum slow. visited my local hobby lobby and they seem to be changing their yarn lineup. sugar 'n cream looks like it's being phased out. so is LB chenille. and there is a much smaller selection of homespun, but now they've got LB glitterspun, polarspun, kool wool, fun fur. i like glitterspun. it looks/feels a lot like berroco metallica. so i'm thinking, there are a couple of berroco patterns that i would like to use this yarn to substitute, especially as it comes in RED. polarspun definitely feels like snowflake, (which i'm not fond of, maybe it *feels* better after washing). kool wool is very similar to pronto; (50% merino/50% acrylic). i'm going to use this (in black) for the skinny rib turtleneck from Hollywood Knits. if you don't have the book, it's the Velma sweater from the Scooby Doo movie. and i discovered a cotton yarn i've never seen before. it is called Sinfonia, made by Omega. it is sport weight mercerized cotton with a nice sheen to it. comes in nice sized 100g (218 yds) balls. the label doesn't give a row/stitch gauge, but suggests a US 4 needle. i bought 1 ball to play with, and see where this fits in with my knitting wishes. i'm thinking a rowan pattern, but am not sure yet.

the sleeveless turtleneck is gone! so is the Rio t-top. i was not happy with the way either was coming out. i still want to start 3xChic, but am not sure what yarn i would like to use. maybe homespun, if i can find the new color "Mardi Gras". or maybe not. i've just not been satisfied with anything i've started recently. i don't know what it is. i'm thinking i want something cabled. but not too cabled. easy. fairly quick (size 8 or 9 needles), but am not finding anything to my liking. i know, i know...design it myself. but to be honest. i don't feel like doing the work (right now) i just want a pattern to tell me what to do.

|

05 November 2002

i started another project. i needed something on larger needles than 5. i was gonna start 3xChic, but I didn't want to go out and buy another pair of #10 needles. instead i started a sleeveless turtleneck out of Lion Brand Thick 'n Quick Chenille. this should go fast.

04 November 2002

wrist warmers are done. the 2nd isn't EXACTLY like the first, but that's okay. and the wrist warmers are done. now i need to go work on my NaNoWrimo novel. the cardie will have to be finished another day. i *did* work a few rows on the woolease top. its on size 5 needles, so it is slow going.

|

03 November 2002

ok. the sweater is DONE. yeah! babygirl tried it on, and yes, the neckline is a bit too wide. i don't know how to fix it yet, but i will figure something out. she loves it anyway. this is my first completed sweater. now i'm working on the 2nd wrist warmer, and should have that finished later tonight.

|

Instant Gratification!

in the wee hours, while i was surfing the knit blog ring, i started a wrist warmer out of some heather blue lion brand imagine. and i am sewing it up now! way cool. i've never finished a project so quickly, and it feels good! maybe i *will* finish that cardie today! that would be an amazing three FOs in one weekend.

|

02 November 2002

and yes i WILL finish the Katia cardigan. soon.

|

ALMOST an FO!! Babygirl's sweater has one more seam to be sewn then it is done. she's already tried it on, and the neck is a little big. in fact the sweater is just a bit big, but she's growing, and she likes it. i'm thinking of taking it to my LYS and see what they can do to help me with the neckline. maybe doing some decreasing to bring it in more? no digital camera, but i will take pics.
