omg! i said "mama" in the last post.....does that mean i'm turning into a bonafide southerner???

|

started on baby blanket #1. using a simple pattern of blocks of knit and purl stitches, surrounded by a garter stitch border. simple enough. i was thinking of doing baby blanket #2 with a knit & purl diamond pattern. i really want to get these two blankies out of the way so i can go back to my stuff. finished the first i-cord handle for the mini-tote. maybe i'll finish the 2nd one tonite. she's also got a wishlist of stuff for me to make. just like her mama, she falls in love with the yarns, and pretty much doesn't think about the pattern until later.

And I'm about to start the following:

i haven't been updating this blog, since there hasn't been much knitting to talk about. i'm still working on the felted tote for my daughter. i am on the first of two i-cord handles. i figure i should be done by the weekend. printed out some more patterns from berroco. has anyone had a problem with their patterns? i see quite a few things i'd like to make. when...i don't know. my next TWO projects will be to finish the dayum sleeveless turtleneck from Knit It. and i need to get more microspun to finish the baby sweater. i still have that lavender Zen lying around, as well as some tutti frutti colored Tahki Capri. I have in mind the racerback tank that is in the Very Easy Vogue Knitting Book. So, when I get paid, I will be making purchases specifically for the next project in mind, and possibly pick up a 2 Patons pattern books (#954 and 956).

oh! almost forgot. i received my fourth book from crafters choice, The Encyclopedia of Knitting by Lesley Stanfield & Melody Griffiths

    |

on row 25 of baby jacket. had to frog a few rows, which was NOT fun with the splitting microspun. (Grrrr). evidently, i'd forgotten a buttonhole.

in other news....went to my LYS yesterday during lunchtime. in a matter of minutes, i managed to rack up an $80 bill.
    • felted mini tote kit for the lil diva
    • 2 balls Gedifra Big Point
    • 1 ball SirdarSnowflake
    • Snowflake pattern
    • size 15 Addi turbo circulars [OMG ..the price!!]
    • 1 ball Tahki Capri
    • 1 ball Debbie Bliss Cotton DK

well, i found the yarn for the sleeveless cowl (scroll down). it is a cotton acrylic blend, so it shouldn't be too heavy or too warm.

    |

i think i'm gonna go pick up the felted purse that i saw for my daughter. i want something quick (and simple) that i can make for her that she can use *now*, and not in 6-7 months when its gets cold again. Of course, the lil diva's list of things she wants mommy to make is loonngg. and then there is the man-child, and my roommate who both want handknitted items as well.......

    |

got another few rows done on the baby jacket. coming along smoothly so far. i've got to keep track of the rows, so i place the buttonholes properly. i was going to do snaps, but haven't seen any cute ones, so i'll stick with the buttons. i received my patternworks catalog, and a ram wools catalog. i love catalogs. my roommate hates my catalogs. i want more catalogs. what other online knitting vendors send out catalogs?? let me know!

i saw this on a postcard in Kroger's supermarket. looks cute, but i wouldn't eat it.

but if you want the recipe, let me know...

    |

i'm 19 rows into the purple baby sweater. a little squoooshed on this 16" circular, but i can deal. i'm ready to hit the yarn shops--both online and off--so that i can have a stash too. lol...not that i can afford it, but that's another story.

    08 April 2002

started on the hooded baby sweater yesterday. currently on row 11. pattern called for size 5s, but i'm using size 4s. it called for both straights and a 16" icrcular. didn't have money to get both, so i'm working (very tightly) on a 16" circular. i can see this will definitely be an "at work" project, demanding my full attention, especially given how this stupid yarn splits. i'll deal, cause it is so soft and i loovvee the color.

    |

i went to a new (for me) yarn store this weekend. stuck to my guns though, and ONLY bought a size 4 circular needle. however.....the urges were there...to SPEND, SPEND, SPEND. decided i don't need/want the latest Knitters, nor Knit 'N Style. checked out some snowflake yarn, which i loved. also they had the most fluffy soft, cuddleable scarf. it was a store kit, but i didn't have the $$ to purchase. needless to say, the kit will be mine, come next payday. my daughter wants a felted mini-purse. i thought it was just too cute. gonna go hunt for purse patterns on the web.

    05 April 2002

this is a swatch of Zen, done before i found out that my knitting technique was "wrong". aside from uneven stitches, looks fine to me.

    |

    04 April 2002

i cant say whether it is easier or not. just different. but at least now i can say i know two ways to knit.

    |

hmmm...trying out this "new" technique. different from what i've been doing, but i guess i will see how it turns out compared to what i was doing before.

    |

i think i've been knitting the wrong way all this time. after looking at the video thingie at stitchguide.com and the How to Knit book, the techniques shown don't match my own. Hmmmm....but it *looks* okay to me....

    |

i am about to start a *new* project; (yes...another one). the hooded baby sweater featured in Knit It magazine. i'm swatching some purple microspun and this yarn sucks. it split even as i cast on. i can see this is going to be some sloooowww going with this project, just to avoid the split stitches.

it seems as though my comments have disappeared. hope this is only temporary. i love reading comments. oh well. email me if you want.

i got my books from crafter's choice. they forgot to ship one of the 4 books i ordered, but i am very pleased with what i do have. Vogue Knitting Very Easy Knits (we'll see just how easy. the Big Book of Knitting by Katharina Buss, and How to Knit by Debbie Bliss.. were these good choices? i've read good things about them on the lists that i am on, and just thumbing through, even i can learn a thing ot two.
