i found a home for Zen. it will soon become the uCan2 Shell, courtesy of Chicknits and Bonnie Marie Burns. Wish me luck!!

|

i'm swatching Zen. i did 10 rows with size 5 needles, and will do 10 rows with #6, and 10 with #7. The label band gives a gauge using #9 needles, but i think that would be wayy too large of a stitch, and be more revealing. maybe i will try it anyway and see how it comes out.

i want to make this...

SOOO many WIMs...and choosing between them is sooo difficult. well for one, the socks are on the back, back burner...until i have some time to have someone site with me and get me started, at least. i need to find a baby project. i'm thinking of using microspun yarn by Lion Brand, since it comes in such really nice bright colors, and is quite affordable. My friend Tia is not one for the "typical" baby colors. Brite is her thang! And she had another boy...so I'm thinking bright blues, purples, greens. But she lives in Texas, so it definitely will *NOT* be a wool type garment or blanket. i will get back to my sleeveless turtleneck, once my frustrtation subsides a little bit. right now, i'm just not feelin' it. so, that leaves the hooded jacket thingie, and Zen ribbon yarn that i keep caressing in anticipation. Ummmm....did i mention that the entire hank got tangled up, and i'm in the process of de-tangling? Frustrating, but my own fault. :-(

added creative soul confessions to my link list.

the extent of my craftiness this weekend consisted of untwisting & retwisting the lil diva's head. that is a job unto itself. then undoing my own head. but at least i had help .

DAMMIT!!!! i was all set to sew together the front and back of my sleeveless shell, but lo and behold...i screwed up big time. looks like i'm gonna hafta rip out the front and do it over. ARRGGGHHHH!!!! but i'm not doing it now....think i need to move onto something else for a minute, then come back to it. when i get home, gonna check to see what is in my (small) stash.

also tried to start on some socks...what a joke. i need a remedial course in sock-making. like one-on-one type of instruction

so now, i'll get back to the hooded sweater i started, and the baby blankie that i owe my friend in texas. her baby boy is 2 months old already...yikes!

|

went to Walmart this morning. bought #7 needles and a needle so that i can finally start sewing up this sleeveless thingie. (wish me luck) and then i went to barnes & noble. looked at the new Knitters, and Interweave Knits...could only get ons, so IK it was. i see a nice top made with Zen...something to think about.

so the front and back of my sleeveless turtleneck are finished. i got a little confused about the neck shaping, but i think i did okay. we shall soon see. i lost a stitch somewhere along the way, but I don't see it causing much of a problem.

Next step: joining shoulders and seams (yikes!), which i have no idea how to do, so i'm off to find out some internet resources to help me out.

still plugging away at the sleeveless turtleneck, and still searching for ideas for Zen. i would like to make a shell, but
i don't want to waste too much of this yarn making stupid swatches. and yes, i know swatching is important...but this yarn is $10.25/hank, so i'd like to keep the swatching to a minimum

so...a question to my fellow knitting bloggers...have any of you used Zen? what for? what size needles?.

18 March 2002

back on track again. went to Nease's Needleworks this weekend. Yummy yarns everywhere! I took a lot of restraint for me not to spend way more money than I should. However, I *did* manage to buy some sock yarn, and a hank of Berroco "Zen" to play around with. So my question is...I've got the yarn I'd like to use...how do I go about finding an appropriate pattern?

15 March 2002

dammit!! made a boo-boo somewhere in the past 8 or so rows, cause i have more stitches than i should have. ::sigh:: i ripped out the rows, but damn, it's a pain, getting the needle back into this damn yarn. can you tell i'm a little frustrated?

12 March 2002

in my first knitting incarnation (about 9 or 10 years ago) i attempted a cable sweater. i never finished it, because i: a) lost interest and b) didn't understand the *importance* of buying enough yarn to finish a project. Maybe soon I'll venture into the CableNation again.

thanks everyone for linking to me and/or mentioning my blog in your blog. i never knew there were so many kewl knitters out there!

ivete, i think the reason there are so many knitters in chicago is because it is inhumanly cold up there! nyc was bad enough, and i had to move south!

10 March 2002

now that i think about it, i'd really like to buy The Ultimate Book of Knitting, that I saw at Michaels. But for $39.99, I will have to think carefully on that one. I'd much rather splurge on some yummy luxury yarn that I will probably be afraid to use, LOL.

still working on sleeveless turtleneck. i recounted my stitches on this last row i was working, simply because i'd thought i'd lost stitches along the way. same count--whew! i think had i f**ked it up, i probably would just throw it aside and continue with project #2.

i've been on knitu and the knitlist for a couple of weeks, primarily just lurking. don't have much to comment on either list, except for...."c'mon folks...it's just not that deep! I *have* seen The Urban Knitter, and very briefly skimmed through it. Not sure if I'll buy it or not. The local Waldenbooks is having a closing sale, and every book in the store is an additional 15% off, so that may be my impetus to purchase. again, we'll see how finances roll once the 15th gets here.

07 March 2002

way cool! i've been linked to from yarn.fiend's blog. i feel so "official" now. LOL in knitting news, i took out a couple of books from the library. "Knitting Without Tears, and "Knitting the New Classics". I wasn't too impressed with KWT, but maybe because I just wasn't in a reading mood. Nice stuff in KtNC that I may attempt. I want a short-sleeved, mock neck, crop top, (in a K2P2 rib ideally), but can't seem to find one at all. :-(

going back and forth between both projects. i guess i'm a little bored with both of 'em, and i'm already looking to see what's next. i'd like to make something for my kids. the boy already requested aforementioned charcoal hoodie in black. the lil diva wants something purple. if i can find a cute summery knit top or dress for her, that would be cool.
